IOTA, July 2nd

Gonna try to make this one, assuming I can get out of Center City by 5:00. Gonna fly down 95 to Bowie, drop off my son, pick up my buddy, Joe, and head across the river to Arlington. Gonna be lucky to get there by 9:00.

Request to Dave - please please don't start on time. It's a holiday weekend and DC traffic sucks to begin with. Hoping Coolerman might be in the house, given IOTA's proximity to Ellicott City, and it being a Friday night. Cooler - I got a place for you to stay after the show if you need one.

Then it's off to Nationals Park the next night to see the Nats/Mets. If they maintain the usual every 5th day rotation, I'll get to see rookie phenom Strasburg on the mound for the Nats. Haven't been this excited to see a baseball game in DC since about 1969 or 70.

Anyone else going to IOTA ?

Eric, are you crazy?? (Well, actually don't answer that) You won't be flying down 95, you'll be crawling - and lucky to make by 11pm! Anyway, thanks for the invite but I'll be cleared out of Maryland that week by Thursday night. I am planning on being at the Elk Creek Cafe show in good 'ol Sugar Valley on July 3rd though.

I want to go to Sugar Valley so bad, but my son John, who Marian promised a date with a really cute 17 yeard old girl, is too shy and would rather see Strasberg pitch. His loss and mine. Who's your momma.

I plan on being there. Any idea a good time to arrive? I know they don't sell tix ahead of time. Wanna get there early enough but don't to spend all my drinking money preshow.

I just tried to call and get tix - no way to do that apparently. Hope I get in. I'll be very lucky to make it by 9. Hoping for a late start, maybe a little rain delay.

Re: IOTA, July 2nd

IOTA has a nice little restaurant/bar adjacent to the concert room, which is open well before the show lets in. I usually drink there for a while, then head inside when doors open (usually around 9) to get a seat at the bar.

I live right up the street, but I have a wedding to attend on the 2nd and can't make it. Aaargh. Luckily, the wedding is it Charlottesville, and Marah is playing there on the 1st. So I'll head down a day early, and it's all good.

Yes, just come grab a drink at the restaurant side; the IOTA folks make the rounds there first to collect the cover charge/ticket price for the show. When we last did this, it was still a half hour or so before Marah came on (after we moseyed on over from next door).

Eric, I don't think anything will happen before 9:00 pm.

See y'all there,

alt title: last night i took a chance and wore my dancin' shoes.

do not adjust your screen oldheads, scooby is back in the house. it's been a long and sad absence my friends. i'll be blunt here folks, it's been far too long since i've truly felt moved at a marah show. as john (maxsilent to some of you) called it, last night was a rededication and rebirth of the band i grew to love. Put more aptly, re-educated, re-dedicated, re-animated, re-invigorated with the power, the magic, the mystery, and the ministry of rock 'n' roll.

props to the setlist poster as there was no way i could have recreated that. you can see the mix of old and new. but what you can't see, and why everyone reading this should not think twice about getting to a gig and soon, is just how mind-numblingly incredible the band is now. Forget all of the drama surrounding what went down. That's not what the rock is about. It's about waking up the next morning and realizing your toes are still tapping. It's about wanting to spread the gospel to anyone who will listen, and more so to those who won't.
